BUOYANT HOUSEThis house is sited near a hot spring at the base of a sacred mountain on the northeast coast of Taiwan. The house and integral gardens are developed with the concept of buoyancy, in response to the rising and falling of water, mountains, ocean and the clouds of the site. Horizontal surfaces of wood and stone fluctuate on interior walls of white plaster. On the exterior, a steel frame holds cleft-split local stone and teak wood doors and windows. Wood shutters integral to the openings may be dropped down when a typhoon approaches. |
